Whether your new external windows or doors are located in urban environments or on coastal cliffs, your ironmongery faces more challenges than its interior counterparts and is continuously exposed to environmental elements. This exposure can impact the longevity of your window or door hardware; however, potential issues can be mitigated by diligently caring for your ironmongery.
Following fitting and installation we recommend that your door or window furniture should be cleaned gently using a soft cloth together with mild warm soapy water, then dried gently with a clean soft cloth, ensuring that any wiping or rubbing is in the same direction as the brush or polish lines.
On a monthly basis, clean any ironmongery with a soft, dry cloth or duster. Any rubbing or wiping should be carried out in the direction of the brush or polish lines. Ironmongery should then be washed gently with a soft cloth and warm soapy water before drying with a clean, dry, soft cloth, again in the same direction as the brush or polish lines. Fingerprints may be removed using this process too.
Bi-annually, lubricate any moving parts with a suitable fully synthetic PFTE grease, such as Coastal’s GLS200 General Lubricant Spray. This multipurpose lubricant is both water and salt resistant and can be used both indoors and outdoors to create an anti-corrosive shield against the elements. The GLS200 spray can be used on any door lock or gearbox whilst rotating the door handle to ensure that the product works its way into the moving parts and should keep door locks and gearboxes moving smoothly.
Should you also have a door cylinder as a part of your installation, a regular squirt of Coastal’s KABA cylinder spray should clean, lubricate and maintain trouble free key operation.
