Accoya & Anker Stuy

Accoya and Anker Stuy Coatings

Chances are, your new exterior door or window boasts a painted or stained coating, spray finished in our custom built spray booth. We work closely in partnership with Anker Stuy who have developed a premium coating system which offers optimum adhesion and long term durability for our bespoke Accoya products.

Wooden windows and doors are crafted from a natural material, which means they inherently possess qualities that evolve over time. As a living product, wood responds to environmental conditions, undergoing changes in appearance, texture, and integrity. Factors such as temperature fluctuations, humidity levels, and exposure to sunlight can all contribute to the gradual transformation of the wood. This natural evolution can manifest in various ways, such as slight shifts in colour, minor expansions or contractions, and subtle changes in texture.

This dynamic nature of wooden windows and doors not only adds character and uniqueness to each piece but also underscores the importance of regular maintenance to ensure their longevity and performance. Understanding these changes is essential for preserving their beauty and functionality over the years.

Over time, all wooden windows and doors will require periodic repainting as the factory-applied coating eventually reaches the end of its lifespan. Anker Stuy coatings are the best in protecting the timber underneath however, with time, eventually even this will start to degrade. This is a natural irreversible process caused by the environment and UV rays from the sun.

Each individual window and door possesses a distinct maintenance schedule, unique to the specific piece of joinery, due to the various factors that contribute to its construction. Factors such as the type of paint, design features, level of exposure to sunlight and moisture, and proximity to the coast all influence the longevity and maintenance schedule.

For your reference, and as a general guide, the table below provides an estimate of general maintenance intervals, indicating when repainting might be necessary.
