Rear of Property (2)

We relish the opportunity to restore historic homes while enhancing comfort and functionality. This was precisely the case when we were contracted to revive the historic beauty of Uplands, a striking 1920s property in Beverley.

The Project

Embarking on this journey, our task was to create and install 45 box windows, ranging from traditional sliding sash to bespoke curved-headed designs.

It wasn't just about windows though; a grand six-section bi-fold door was envisaged to transform a space into an orangery, alongside French doors, and even an oval window with intricate astragal bar detailing.

And as the finishing touch: a custom-designed vestibule door, complete with matching panel detailing and exquisite stained glass, all under a beautifully curved-headed canopy.

Key elements:

  • Designing and handcrafting 45 bespoke box sash windows in a range of styles including curved heads
  • Fabricating a 6-section bi-fold door to create an orangery space
  • Custom vestibule door and canopy matching the property's existing style
  • Triangle-shaped dormer windows for a fire escape
  • High security doors and hardware

Our Approach

Meticulous project management was critical to coordinate work in 6 phases over 12 months, with multiple site visits worked around other contractors onsite. Our expertise ensured seamless installation into existing and new openings.

All joinery was handcrafted from sustainably sourced Accoya wood with a 50-year guarantee against rot. This long-lasting, low-maintenance material was chosen specifically to complement the age and grandeur of the property.

The windows were finished in microporous paint in the customer’s selected heritage colour scheme. Every detail was carefully considered, right down to replicating the original window horns.

The Result

The completed project exemplifies our ability to merge period charm with modern functionality. The property has regained its elegant historic aesthetic, with traditionally operating windows and bespoke period doors.

Behind the traditional exterior, the installation of high-performance glazing provides increased energy efficiency. Bi-fold and French doors connect the home to the garden while filling the rooms with natural light. Discreet multipoint locks and other contemporary features ensure the comfort and security expected of a modern home.
